New research from Rent4sure reveals that foreign nationals make up 7% of all tenant applications

More than 130 countries are represented, with India, Romania and Italy coming top of the list.

The stats come in the wake of continued debate around Right to Rent, with latest figures showing  that 62 landlords received penalties under the scheme during its first 8 months. Right to Rent  requires landlords to establish that tenants have the right to be in the country by checking their documentation, in line with the Immigration Act 2016.

As the capability to produce fake passports improves, being able to identify genuine documents by eye is becoming increasingly harder.

Rent4sure’s solution to fighting identity fraud uses the latest technological advance. A smart MRZ tool helps customers verify that documents are genuine, allowing them to determine if passports, identity cards and other relevant immigration paperwork have been tampered with.

MRZ analysis is part of Rent4sure’s prestigious Reference Plus product, developed specifically to enable agents to meet all the challenges and responsibilities that arise from complex legislation surrounding multiple checks.
